CSX Unveils Family Lines System Heritage Locomotive
March 13, 2024 - CSX continues its tradition of honoring the rich history of America’s freight railroads by unveiling the latest addition to its heritage locomotive fleet, the Family Lines System tribute locomotive.
“The Family Lines System was a marketing tactic that brought together the allying lines of the L&N, Clinchfield, Seaboard Coast Line and smaller railroads,” explained Jason Merritt, a carman at the CSX Waycross Mechanical Shop where the locomotive was designed. “Eventually it became the Seaboard System, and ultimately CSX.”
The Family Lines System tribute locomotive is the eleventh release in CSX’s heritage series and comes on the heels of previous unveilings, such as the commemoration of the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad, further solidifying CSX's dedication to celebrating the diverse and storied history of its railroad.
As CSX continues to expand its heritage series, each new addition represents a bridge between the past, present, and future of railroad operations. These locomotives serve as moving tributes, capturing the imagination and curiosity of enthusiasts while fostering an appreciation for the historical significance of the railroads that have shaped the nation's infrastructure.
“The Family Lines System heritage locomotive is another testament to the craftsmanship of our Mechanical team in Waycross, Georgia,” said Joe Hinrichs, CSX President and Chief Executive Officer. “The CSX heritage locomotive series is a great way for us to celebrate our history while creating the future together as ONE CSX team.”
