Crew Dispatcher


Job Summary

Call and assign train crews for rail yard and over-the-road train operations.
 
Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Contact individual crew members and direct them to their assigned trains
  • Complete reports, process data and perform other duties
  • Communicate effectively by telephone, intercom, computer or other communication devices
  • Work independently in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Other duties as assigned by proper authority
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Pay Rate

Pay rate information is subject to change based on Collective Bargaining Agreement and, if applicable, may vary by location.

Training

A series of testing will be administered during five weeks of paid classroom training.  You will be required to successfully attain a passing score of 90% during the training program.  If unsuccessful, your employment will be terminated. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Computer literate using both mainframe and mid-tier computer applications
  • Ability to type 25 average net words per minute

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of customer service and/or call center experience

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary - No lifting over 10 pounds

Job Requirements

  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek
  • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations
  • Must successfully pass probationary
  • Must pass all required assessments
  • Must pass a background screening
  • Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test
  • Work in a fast-pace environment
  • This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership is req.
