CSX's Allison Russo Named to RT&S Magazine's Women in Railroad Engineering List

July 16, 2024 - Railway Track & Structures (RT&S) Magazine has named CSX’s Allison Russo as one of their distinguished Women in Railroad Engineering for her exceptional contributions and leadership in the railroad industry.

Russo began her career with CSX in 2010 as a Communications Technician in the Network Operations Center and transitioned shortly after into a specialized role providing Automatic Equipment Identification (AEI) support. In 2016, she moved to the newly created Manager of Automatic Equipment Identification and Wayside Detectors position, which she currently holds. In this position, she oversees the full life cycle management of AEI and Wayside Detector assets, including remotely monitored crossings. She also provides feedback to vendors on new Wayside Detector technology.

Under her leadership, Russo’s dedicated team has grown and developed processes to continuously improve performance, reliability, processes, safety, and cost-efficiency for critical assets. The team's network includes approximately 700 AEI readers, 1,000 wayside detectors, and 2,000 monitored crossings.

Russo has also served in influential roles in industry organizations, including previously as chair of the Association of American Railroads AEI Committee, for which she is now vice chair, and current chair of the AREMA C38-1 Subcommittee on Equipment Applications.

“Allison's technical expertise and innovative mindset have made her a highly valued member of our ONE CSX team and a great contributor to our industry,” said Carl Walker, CSX Vice President of Engineering – Communications, Signals, and Positive Train Control. “We are proud to see her receive well-earned recognition from RT&S magazine.”

Russo’s dedication also extends to giving back to her community. She has served as Team Leader for Relay for Life of the First Coast and has participated in Jacksonville’s Gate River Run and the DONNA Marathon. Additionally, she regularly engages in company-sponsored events such as the CSX Santa Train packing party, helping the company prepare to provide Christmas care packages to children across Appalachia; and the Wounded Warrior Carry Forward 5K, which supports wounded warriors and their families.

The Women in Railroad Engineering list celebrates the achievements of women who are driving innovation, advancing technology, and shaping the future of the rail industry. You can read Russo’s spotlight and the full list online now and in the July 2024 edition of RT&S Magazine.
