A shocking turn of events has unfolded in Ogun State, Nigeria, where a social welfare activist, Just Adetoun, has become the subject of a legal battle. The story began when Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road accident in Ogun State. Just Adetoun seized the opportunity to shine a spotlight on what she perceived as the state's neglect of public welfare. In a series of videos, she accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of prioritizing his social life over the well-being of the people, claiming there was no emergency ambulance service available.
However, the state government has strongly refuted these allegations, stating that Ogun State operates multiple emergency response services. Attorney General Oluwasina Ogungbade described Adetoun's claims as "false, malicious, and misleading," posing a serious risk to public safety by spreading misinformation.
"These claims are not only false but also dangerous. Ogun State has a robust healthcare system with state-owned and state-supported ambulance services," Ogungbade emphasized.
As the controversy escalated, the state petitioned the police, alleging violations of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015. The police invited Just Adetoun for questioning, but she failed to appear, allegedly going into hiding instead. And this is the part most people miss...
While in hiding, Adetoun released another video, claiming she was ill and unable to honor the police invitation. Her lawyer then submitted a medical report to the police, stating that she was medically indisposed. However, police investigations revealed a shocking truth: the medical report was fake.
"A letter from her lawyer included a medical report allegedly issued by a Lagos-based doctor. But investigations proved the report to be false," Ogungbade explained.
The doctor who issued the report later confessed to fabricating it, admitting that he had never met or examined Adetoun Onajobi. He was subsequently arrested, charged, and remanded for fraudulent medical documentation and obstruction of justice.
"The doctor's actions have serious legal consequences. He has been charged and is facing the full force of the law," Ogungbade added.
Just Adetoun remains at large, and her credibility has been called into question. The Attorney General wondered why, if she had evidence to support her claims, she failed to present it to the authorities or the public, instead resorting to forging medical records.
"One has to question the motives behind such actions. It raises serious concerns about the activist's integrity and the reliability of her previous actions," Ogungbade stated.
The statement also alleged that Adetoun had a history of misconduct, including an incident where she bullied a woman sweeping an estate in Lagos and unlawfully filmed and shared images of the woman's underage child on social media.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed inviting Onajobi for questioning, based on a petition over her online outbursts against Governor Abiodun. Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that she was invited to aid in the investigations.
