A former Lewes resident, Ty Mauldin, has been indicted on charges of healthcare fraud, identity theft, and obtaining drugs by fraud. The federal grand jury's indictment, filed on November 13, alleges that Mauldin, who worked at multiple healthcare clinics in Delaware, stole the identities of medical professionals to order thousands of opioid pills. Additionally, he is accused of billing Medicaid and his health insurance for services and pain medication he never provided or prescribed. Property records indicate that Mauldin owned property in Lewes from 2022 to 2024. He now faces 13 counts of aggravated identity theft, two counts of healthcare fraud, and seven counts of obtaining drugs by fraud. If convicted, he could receive a maximum sentence of 74 years in prison and over $2 million in fines. Mauldin, currently residing in South Dakota, pleaded not guilty to the indictment on December 11. The indictment details how Mauldin provided medical billing and credentialing services at various clinics, including one offering transcranial magnetic stimulation and a mental health treatment clinic. It also mentions that he worked at an urgent care walk-in clinic from 2023 to 2025. Court records further reveal that Mauldin lied about his qualifications and falsified information to obtain medical credentials, including applying to be a registered nurse in Delaware with false degrees and credentials. He also forged signatures to obtain medical certifications and drugs, presenting himself as a cancer patient requiring pain management services. This included installing an intrathecal pain pump and prescribing opioids based on his forged medical records. The indictment also highlights that Mauldin used his access to his own medical records to falsify his personal health information, further emphasizing the extent of his fraudulent activities. U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace emphasized the impact of Mauldin's actions, stating that they resulted in the illegal diversion of thousands of opioid doses and undermined public trust in the healthcare system. The authorities are committed to preventing such illegal activities and will pursue those who pose a public health threat to the fullest extent of the law.
