Exciting news for fans of rhythm games! A brand-new title reminiscent of the classic Guitar Hero series has just been announced for Xbox, stirring up nostalgia and anticipation among gamers everywhere. The last major game of this genre was Guitar Hero Live, which debuted back in 2015—unless you count the brief foray into guitar gaming with Fortnite Festival in 2023. Now, players will soon have another opportunity to rock out with the upcoming game, titled Sound System.
Developed by Echo Foundry Interactive, a team comprised of experienced creators from the Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, and Band Hero franchises, Sound System promises to elevate the music gaming experience to new heights. Marketed as a "next-generation rhythm platform," this game is designed with performance, competition, and community engagement at its core. It will support guitar, bass, and vocals right from its launch, making it an inclusive choice for music enthusiasts.
Players will have the option to choose between two distinct gameplay modes: Classic and Pro. Classic mode features more forgiving timing windows and eliminates the risk of failure, catering to those who prefer a more laid-back gaming experience. In contrast, Pro mode presents a more intense challenge for seasoned players. Additionally, Sound System will be available as a free-to-play title, although a "Complete" edition priced at $34.99 will unlock all 60 tracks available at launch along with various in-game perks. For those looking to expand their musical library, individual songs will also be offered as downloadable content (DLC).
Customization is another key element of Sound System, allowing players to personalize their experiences with dynamic backgrounds, custom themes, and full-motion videos. A particularly exciting feature is the integrated note chart editor, enabling users to create their own note charts for any song they desire, thus ushering in a fresh era of interactive music gaming.
According to a press release, Sound System aims to revive the joy of guitar gaming while embracing modern elements like free music and community-driven gameplay. It is set to launch initially on PC in Spring 2026, with further details hinting at a possible May release. Although an exact date for the Xbox version remains unconfirmed, developers have indicated plans for additional features post-launch, including a roadmap that mentions more DLC tracks, an experience points leveling system, and even support for drum pads and keyboards in the future.
In tandem with this announcement, Drakong has unveiled an innovative guitar controller known as the "InfinaKore Telecaster Edition." This state-of-the-art controller boasts a fully modular design, allowing players to customize components to suit their preferences. It also introduces a new Fret-Tapping D-Pad mechanism aimed at providing both new and veteran players with a fresh challenge.
