Addressing Cardio-Renal-Metabolic diseases in Europe’s Cardiovascular Health Plan – Parliament Events
Europe is confronting a growing challenge from Cardio-Renal-Metabolic (CRM) diseases. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among people with chronic kidney disease, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), and obesity. These conditions are deeply interconnected: the heart, kidneys, liver, and metabolic systems are physiologically linked, so dysfunction in one organ raises the risk of complications in others. This interconnectedness accelerates disease progression, leading to more hospitalizations and higher mortality rates. Yet the CRM linkages are still under-recognized across the EU, despite their critical importance.
The recent Council Conclusions on Cardiovascular Health (December 2024) highlighted the urgent need for targeted CRM prevention strategies. Building on this momentum, the European Commission has unveiled an EU Cardiovascular Health Action Plan, and the European Parliament has proposed an Own-Initiative Report on Cardiovascular Health.
Join this event to engage with EU policymakers, healthcare experts, and representatives from patient organizations to explore actionable solutions for stronger prevention and integrated care. Together, we can identify opportunities to lessen the burden of cardiovascular disease and improve health outcomes across Europe.
