The stakes were high, but UFC Vegas 112 just lost one of its most consequential matchups. A strawweight clash pitting top contenders Amanda Lemos and Gillian Robertson has been pulled from Saturday’s UFC APEX card after Lemos withdrew due to illness, later described by the UFC as a medical issue.
Robertson broke the news first on Instagram Stories. The exact nature of Lemos’ illness hasn’t been disclosed.
Currently ranked No. 5 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, Lemos would have stood to gain a lot with a win, while Robertson sits at No. 10. The cancellation is a significant setback for both fighters, especially since a victory could have propelled the winner to the front of the 115-pound title line. Lemos, who has bounced between wins and losses over her last six bouts, does own a notable decision victory over current champion Mackenzie Dern from February 2024. A title shot would have marked Lemos’ second attempt at UFC gold after a loss to Zhang Weili at UFC 292.
Robertson has been on a strong run since moving down from 125 pounds, winning five of six bouts, including four in a row. Her latest win came in May, when she stopped Marina Rodriguez in the second round. Robertson is known for her finish-heavy approach and holds the UFC record for the most submission finishes by a woman, along with the most wins by finish in the women’s flyweight division.
With this withdrawal, UFC Vegas 112 shifts to 12 planned bouts, still led by a highly anticipated men’s flyweight contender clash between Brandon Royval and Manel Kape on the card.
